Tour Santo Domingo
Full day in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.
We will take you to discover the city where it all began between culture, folklore, history and curiosities.
It is the oldest European settlement in the Americas and was the first Spanish colony; it is here that the first university was opened, the first road was paved, the first church and the oldest monastery in the New World were built. It was the meeting point between Europe and New Americas.
During the excursion you can visit all the main places of historical and cultural interest, but also enjoy the rhythms and lifestyles of the locals. A guide will lead you to the Colonial Zone, where historical characters such as Christopher Columbus or the pirate Francis Drake once walked, where you can live and breathe the true atmosphere of Santo Domingo: it is in this area, in fact, that the greatest is found number of museums, churches and places of historical interest such as the Catedral Primada de America, the first church built in the New World, the Fortaleza Ozama, the Casa de Bastidas, the Panteon Nacional, the museum of the Royal House and the Alcazar de Colon (residence by Christopher Columbus).
The stop for lunch will be in a typical Dominican restaurant in the colonial city where it will be possible to meet the locals.
The afternoon is dedicated to walks through the streets of the historic center and to some shopping in the typical shops of the place where in addition to the classic souvenir objects and colorful paintings, you can find precious amber of good quality and larimar, precious stone of a nice blue color. This is the only place in the world where this type of mineral was discovered. There are also collectible rums and handmade cigars.
